As the entity deciding how personal information is collected, held, used and disclosed, we are the privacy-law "controller" of the information processed through this site. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and this policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and what you can do if you are not satisfied with how we handle it. Contact: [email protected].
2. Information we collect: server logs and security records
- Data: IP address, date/time of the visit, requested page, user agent string
- Purpose: operation of the site, security monitoring, fraud prevention
- Retention: up to 14 days for access records, up to 90 days for security records
These records are kept automatically whenever you visit the site. They let us keep the service running and let us investigate security incidents. No personal details are entered or stored by us for this activity beyond what your browser transmits.
3. Information we collect: contact requests
- Data: name (optional), email address, the content of your message
- Purpose: responding to enquiries made through the site's contact form
- Retention: up to 180 days
If you write to us, we keep only the details you provide with your message, and we keep them only long enough to answer you and to respond to any follow-up on the same matter.
4. Information we collect: cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site function and, with your consent where it is required, optional analytics and affiliate cookies to understand how the site is used. The full list of cookies, their purposes and how to manage them is set out in our Cookie Policy, which is linked from the footer of every page.
5. Purposes and lawful bases for processing
We process personal information only where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the APPs permit it. The purposes we process for are: operating and maintaining the site, responding to enquiries you send us, improving the content and structure of the site, complying with legal obligations, and, where you have given consent, sending you marketing that you have asked for. We do not process personal information for any purpose that is incompatible with these, and we do not repurpose information collected for one activity for an unrelated one without telling you.
6. How we use and disclose information (recipients)
We use information to operate the site, to improve content, to respond to you, and to comply with the law. Recipients of disclosed information may include hosting providers, security vendors, analytics providers and affiliate partners, each of whom receives personal information only under contract and only to the extent needed to perform the service. We may also disclose information where a law, court order or regulator requirement makes the disclosure necessary. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with parties for their own marketing.
7. Overseas disclosure and international transfers
Some of our service providers are based outside Australia or process data on servers located overseas. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle the information in accordance with APP 8, which requires that we do not disclose personal information overseas unless the recipient is a person or body that is bound by laws or contracts that are substantially similar to the APPs. If an overseas recipient is not so bound, we may disclose only where an exception applies under APP 8.
8. Marketing (Spam Act 2003)
We do not send unsolicited commercial electronic messages without consent. Where we do send commercial messages with your consent, you may opt out of marketing at any time, and every commercial message includes the details needed to act on that request.
9. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorized access, modification or disclosure, and we review those safeguards as the service and the threats change. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your rights
You may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold, under APP 12 and APP 13. Contact [email protected] to make such a request, and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are unsatisfied with the outcome, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): oaic.gov.au, phone 1300 363 992.
11. Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB)
We comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988. If an eligible data breach is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify the affected individuals and the OAIC as the scheme requires, with the steps set out in that scheme.
12. Minors and automated decision-making
This website is for persons aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from minors, and if we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 18 without their parent or guardian's consent, we will take steps to delete it. In addition, we do not make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing of your personal information; any such decision involves human review.
